Use Your iPhone as a USB Device
Now you can use your iPhone as a flash memory USB device to carry your data on the go. One of the developer of iPhone apps released the app and its features on his blog.
The app is quite useful in the daily life, as it helps the user to fully utilize the storage capacity of iPhone or iPod by allowing it to store their personal, non-associated files, which might save you the cost of buying a data traveler flash USB drive.
The application, USB Drive, lets you create one or more logical portion on your iPhone, and then allows you to transfer any files you want to carry with you. You can also modify the the size of the logical partition.
The beta version is free, and available to download via Cydia. To Install this app on your device, carefully follow these guidelines which were taken from the developer’s blog!
- Install USB Drive from my Cydia repository [ Use http://apt.dmytro.me ]
- Launch USB Drive.
- Create some disk. It takes a while to allocate large amount of data
- Switch to the Mass Storage mode.
- Reboot
- Connect USB Cable
- Enjoy!
Some Limitation of the apps are,
- Files and folders on virtual disks are not directly accessible for iPhone applications nor desktop OS can read or write iPhone files.
- Only 8 virtual volumes can be created at a time.
- USB Drive will automatically format new volumes using FAT16 or FAT32 filesystem only.
- USB Drive will disable Picture Transfer Protocol support when it active. Switching between USB Mass Storage and PTP requires a system restart.
- PTP protocol is being used to transfer pictures to the iPhoto or direct print on compatible printers.
- Application requires jailbroken iPhone and cannot be downloaded from AppStore.
Once again, just to remind you that the app is in beta stage, so try it on your own risk!
