Great news for iPhone and iPod Touch lovers! The Dev-Team (Team of developers responsible for the Jailbreaking and Unlocking of iPhone) has come up with an awesome solution to unlock your iPhone 2G/3G (Not 3GS) or iPod Touch (Old Generations Only) using the new Pwnage tool. If you’re not familiar with what pwnage tool does. then a small answer would be that it’s a tool available on Macs and Windows, developed by Dev-Team to Unlock your iPhone/iPod Touch.

To Unlock your device with OS3.1, follow the step-by-step guide carefully to successfully do it.

Note: This tool is currently available for Mac Platform Only. Stay tuned to our blog regarding the PC release of this tool.

Step 1: Download and install iTunes 9 on Your Mac.

Step 2: Launch iTunes 9 and sync your device with your MAC so that iTunes backs-up all your important data.

Step 3: Download PwnageTool 3.1, Bootloader 3.9 & 4.6 (if you’re using iPhone 2G) and the original iPhone OS 3.1 firmware

Step 4: Start PwnageTool 3.1. It would show a screen like this to choose your device:

Step 5: PwnageTool 3.1 would automatically detect the firmware for your device.

Step 6: When it asks you, if you want to create a custom ipsw file, hit yes!

Step 6: Hit “No” when PwnageTool asks you “Do you have an iPhone contract that would activate normally through iTunes?”.

Step 7: PwnageTool will now create the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone which you’ll have to restore via iTunes 9 to Jailbreak your device.

Step 8: Now you will have to restore your iPhone to this custom firmware 3.1 that you just cooked using PwnageTool. Click on your phone from the sidebar in iTunes, Keep the ‘alt’ button pressed and click on restore. That would open a file browser, from where you can select your customized iPhone Firmware which you just cooked.

And thats it. You device is now free to be used on any cellular network around the world .

Important Note for Windows User:

This tool is currently not available on Windows Platform, but if you’re interested in doing it, then it could be easily done. All you have to do is to download a customized Firmware of your device from any where (Google it, and you’ll find it on first page) and then restore it with your iTunes 9, as explained in the steps above. That should Unlock your device.
