Track Your Lost or Stolen iPad

In iPhone, we had several application which made the recovery of stolen or lost iPhone possible, like this one. Luckily, a very popular application on iPhone platform, MobileMe, now provides the feature for location a stolen or lost iPad.

This feature is not limited to 3G models of iPad only- this option also works fine on the WiFi model of iPad. MobileMe also provides a feature of wiping out all the important data remotely off your iPad, if required after some mishap. If you choose not to sign up for an app like this, you might want to look into an identity theft protection services on the chance the thief decides to steal more than just your iPad.”

More details about this app can be found here, on MobileMe website.

Do you have to download MobleMe on your iPad before it is stolen to use it? Our iPad was stolen today. We have a GPS app downloaded on our iPad, would that help in any way to find it? We also have AT&T 3G that we have been using on the iPad, can they maybe track it? Please let me know what our options are. Thank You.

I also just had my iPad stolen and didn’t have Mobileme on my iPad before it was stolen. Had been using the 3g recently though so would like to know the answer to this question, Kathy Duncan, OK

Yes unfortunately you must first configure a MobileMe account and have FindMyiPhone enabled. I lost my ipad today too and I didn’t have it enabled. I wander if it can be tracked via GPS using the serial number as soon as the founder connects it to the internet. That would be the only chance!!!

    Other options I’ve tried are:
    1) Sent and email to my ipad via my email account i had preconfigured.
    2) I had Toodledo enabled to sync tasks. So I’ve deleted all my tasks and created a new task called “Please return to owner and my mobile #”.
    4) I also sent chat texts on Skype
    4) Finally I placed “I Lost my ipad” signs everywhere nearby the place where I think I lost it.

Hopefully he opens any of these apps and is kind to return it to me.
