The new iPhone 4 revealed at WWDC
This is it, folks, the big, the one we’ve all been waiting for…Steve announced the new iPhone 4 today at the WWDC, citing “over a hundred new features”, but demoing only eight for now.

Apple has unveiled its new iPhone 4 after months of wild speculation and leaks in the electronic media. And it looks pretty much like the leaks suggested (Jobs compared the new design to an old leica camera),with a glass front and back, surrounded by a sleek steel band that also serves as the antenna for the devices various radios, while also being the main strength providing structure for the iPhone 4.other features include:
- Front facing VGA camera,
- A rear camera with LED flash,
- And a new high resolution display that doubles the pixels in each direction (960 x 640) for a 4X overall pixel count increase — Apple calls it a “Retina Display.” It’s rated at 326ppi, which Apple claims is beyond the human eye’s limit of distinction.
- An 3.5 inch IPS display(same as the iPad), with 800:1 contrast
- A4 processor that runs the iPad.
- Despite the new engine (and the 25% thinner chassis), Apple managed to make the battery slightly larger, and the new handset is rated at 7 hours of 3G talk, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of WiFi browsing, 10 hours of video, and 40 hours of music.
- It’s been upgraded to 802.11n WiFi.
- The camera has been bumped to 5 megapixels, with 5X digital zoom and a “backside illuminated sensor,”
- Which can record HD video at 720p / 30fps
- New gyroscope, giving “six axis” motion control between the gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass.

On the software front, applications will automatically get high resolution text and buttons, and with “a little bit of work” developers can make their entire app compatible with the new resolution display. Developers will also get access to a new gyroscope, giving devs “six axis” motion control between the gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass, with a new “Core Motion” API to deal with it all.

And while the Devs figure out how best to make use of the new Gyroscope, you can occupy yourself with the new iMovie app, debuting on iTunes soon for the bargain price of $4.99, promising all the functionality of the iMovie, so that utilize the new video recording capability to its maximum. It will support five themes (for now hopefully), with a good mix of the usual transitions, title styles, with geolocation thrown in for good measure. ReelDirector is another recent app that promises to bring some of the same features to the appstore.
