Currently its not official from Sony about the deduction of price, but a word is out on blogosphere that the Sony is ready to drop 100 bucks on PS3, after which the 40GB version would be shipped for $299. The reason is believed to be the idea of clearing up the old stock before the arrival of PS3 Slim in the market, which is expect by the end of this year.

This new pricing affects all PS3 systems currently in the retail stream, and will carry over to the just-announced PS3 Slim.
