Finally, the long wait for the new version of the iOS 4.0 is over, with the OS now live, and welcoming the users of iTunes 9.2 with a blinking update message. It’s a good thing then that the good folk at iPhone Dev Team have not rested on their laurels, and released the Redsn0w 0.9.5 beta 5  jailbreak tool & the ultrasn0w 0.93 unlock tool to bring the new iOS to all the masses that use iPhone 3G/3GS.

NOTE: Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5 is still in beta mode so you’ll need to let Cydia reorganize, reload, and update after using redsn0w.

How to Jailbreak iPhone 3G 4.0 with Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5

• Download iOS 4.0 for iPhone 3G/3GS, iTunes 9.2 and Redsn0w 0.9.5 beta 5 (Mac, Windows)
• Now manually update iOS 4.0 on iPhone 3G [Means restore your iPhone to the downloaded firmware by restoring it. Hold Shift Key and click on Restore, choose the downloaded file and hit OK]
• This will automatically update your device to the latest firmware – iOS 4
• Once you have updated iPhone 3G/3GS to iOS 4.0, start Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5.
• Click on Browse button and select iPhone 3G 4.0 firmware (iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw) downloaded in the first step.
• Now click Next and Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5 will proceed with the jailbreak.

• Now select “Install Cydia”, also check other options you like as shown in the picture below and click Next (now would be the time to select the any further options you might like to unlock of the iOS 4.0 if you are a 3G user).

• Now You will need to power off your iPhone 3G and connected to computer  only then click on Next button of Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5.
• At this stage you will need to put your iPhone in DFU mode, to do this hold “Power” and “Home” buttons for about 10 seconds. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins (about 30 seconds).
• Now just wait until Redsn0w completes the rest of the process. Once done, your iPhone 3G will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken with iPhone firmware version 4.0.
