This is a complete, step-by-step guide and tutorial on How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS using firmware version 3.1.2, with the help of pwnage tool on MAC. By following this procedure, you’ll be able to Jailbreak your device and install third party applications for your iPhone, but you would not be able to Unlock your iPhone. That solution is yet to be released.

This procedure will install cydia and Icy on your device to browse for third party packages. Follow the steps accurately and than you should be able to Unlock your iPhone.

• Connect your iPhone to iTunes and upgrade to the latest version, that is 3.1.2
• Now download these files from here (iphonedownloadblog.com)

PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X

For iPhone 3GS: 3.1.2 for iPhone 3GS (iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw)

For iPhone 3G: firmware 3.1.2 for iPhone 3G (iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw)

• Launch Pwnage tool. Ignore the Warning message and select “Expert Mode”
• Select Your Device

• Select the ipsw file you just downloaded. Pwnage tool should detect that automatically but if it doesn’t, try doing that manually.
• Now you’ll be given several options as given below. Choose general and then proceed.

• Now it would ask, if you wish to activate your phone. If you have got contract with your cellular service, then don’t check the activate box. If you’re looking forward to unlock your device and use it with different carrier, then check the box.
• Now you’ll be moved to Cydia app, where you can download any sort of utility you like for your iPhone. If this confuses you, then simple hit next arrow and proceed further. You’ll be able to install app even after the jailbreak.

• Now you’ll see Custom Package Settings. Choose Cydia Installer and Icy and then proceed further.

• Choose a custom logo, it’s basically your startup logo which would be displayed instead of that Apple. You can choose any logo you like.
• This is the final step. Here, you’ll have to cook your custom firmware by clicking on Build. Choose a location on your Mac too as where you want to save that firmware.

• Now the Pwnage tool will build your IPSW. It would take upto 10-15 minutes
• The pwnage tool will ask, if your device has been Jailbroken with this tool before. Click Yes or No if you know the answer, or hit No if you’re not sure.
• Please make sure that iTunes doesn’t launch on your system, or it would screw everything up!
• Pwnage will put your iPhone in Recovery Mode

• Launch iTunes now. It would detect that your iPhone was in recovery mode and you should restore it now.

• Select your device in iTunes and hit the Restore button, while pressing “Alt” or “Option” key. This would open a new windows, from where you have to navigate to the place where you downloaded all the files.
• Select the firmware from there. For 3G or 3GS, whatever you have.
• iTunes will now restore your iPhone.
• Reboot it.
