iPhone 4.0 Expected Features

iPhone 4.0 is about to be revealed by Apple in their event on 8th of April, 2010. [You can watch the event Online from here]. The major expectations from this event are details about the future OS of iPhone – which is iPhone OS 4.0, the release of their new firmware – iPhone 3.2 which would be for iPhone as well as iPad, and might be some possible announcement about the rumored iPhone HD, the future iPhone.

So what Apple has got in mind about iPhone 4.0? Well we don’t know for sure, nobody does infact, but we do know what Apple fanboys are expecting from the upcoming release. Lets take a quick look:

Multitasking

iPhone lacks multi-tasking since its launch, and thats a kind of feature which is taken for granted in smartphones. There were two reasons behind disabling multi-tasking on iPhone – First one was a risk of security, as even the Apple approved apps have a possible threat potential, and the other one was excessive processes running in the background, which would have resulted in slow performance and quick drain of battery. The news OS might have something which will take care of these issues.

HomeScreen UI

Homescreen is expected to get a revamp, as its almost same since the beginning. They have not even modified it much in iPad besides changing the background. The iPhone 4.0 firmware is expected to have a feature which would enable the user to add a contact as icon on their home-screen. Sounds a bit strange but lets see what they have got in mind – so far its just a rumor.

Apple iAd

The new firmware is expected to have a feature for Apple advertising program which has been named iAd and it would be in direct competition with Google. Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs has described the new ad platform as “revolutionary” and “our next big thing”. The system is believed to have been built on top of Quattro, the mobile advertising platform that Apple acquired in January for nearly $300 million.

New App Management System

Apple might also announce some feature for app management on iPhone. Currently, there is no specific way to quickly access your desired app if you have plenty of them installed. You would either have to switch through the screen or perform a  search for that app. A new feature “Stacks” is expected to be announced, which would be a spring loaded launcher that could possibly be added to the bottom icon dock. They might also allow users to remove the pre-installed apps on iPhone – like Stocks, calculator etc to save the precious screen space.

Landscape Navigation

Full Landscape Navigation might be another feature of iPhone 4.0, which means that it would be embedded in the OS and would enable all the apps to be used in the landscape mode, whether they provide such a feature or not. Remember what the said about iPad? “There’s no right or wrong way of holding it!” They might apply that for iPhone too by implementing this feature.

Video Calling

Though iPhone doesn’t have a front camera which is essential for video calling, but availability of this feature is also expected in iPhone 4.0. They might launch a service with name iChat that would provide this feature.

These are the features of iPhone 4.0 which is being expected by people so far and roaming all around the web. Have you heard about some features beside these which might be included in iPhone 4.0? Do let us know!
