How to Enable facebook Chat on iChat and Adium for Mac OS X

facebook has officially announced that it now supports XMPP (also known as Jabber) for their chat service which gives us the option of using facebook chat on any Jabber client. Since iChat and Audim are also a Jabber client, they can be easily configured for facebook chat.
Follow this guide to enable facebook chat on iChat:
- Navigate to iChat > Preferences > Accounts
- Click the plus icon in the bottom left hand corner, to add a new account
- Select Jabber as the Account Type
- Enter <username@chat.facebook.com> in the Account Name (where username is your facebook username).
- Enter your facebook password in the password box.
- Click the arrow next to “Server Options” and enter the following info.
- Server: chat.facebook.com
- Port: 5222
- (Uncheck the box labeled “Use SSL”)
And follow these steps if you want to use facebook chat on Adium:
- Go to the Adium menu and select “Preferences.”
- Click the “+” at the bottom of the Accounts tab and select “Jabber” from the pull-down menu.
- Fill in the following information:
- Jabber ID: <username@chat.facebook.com> (where username is your facebook username).
- Enter your facebook password in the password box.
