The biggest problem with any smart phone is their low battery life. No matter how feature rich your cell phone is, its limited battery life could prove to be a big problem in some situations. Several apps for different platform are available for download which could save the battery life of your phone by turning off some unnecessary features and programs which are consuming the power of your phone. A similar app is available for Android users.

The name of that application is JuiceDefender. What is does is that it lets us controls our phone’s APN and WiFi. With the help of this app, you can set a timer on your Android device, when the timer will expire, your device will check for notification, like New Email, tweets, etc. In this way, your cellphone would only use its Internet connection when your timer will expire, rest of the time it would remain disconnected from the Network to save power. This appears to be something which won’t help with the power saving, but its impact on battery life is quite noticeable.

More features, related with the connectivity of the Android phone to the tower are provided in its pro version, which can be downloaded for a price. If provides better management of APN/WiFi and has a better impact on the battery life of the phone.

Nexus One had some trouble in getting the full broadband speed from its 3G networks and users were forced to use the Internet on their Nexus One with EDGE. A Nexus One user, Kevin faced a similar problem with his handset, and he was stuck with EDGE connectivity for several week, until he found out a solution. Now he is getting 3G Network speed (upto 1Mbps) on his Nexus One after applying a simple fix.

Follow these steps of Kevin to fix the 3G issue on your Nexus One:

In “Settings,” I went to “Wireless & networks.” Look for the “Mobile Networks” option at the bottom of this listing. The next screen has a “Network Operators” section — tap it. Your Nexus One will search for compatible GSM networks in the area. Once it’s complete, you’ll see the choices, which will consist of T-Mobile and/or AT&T. You’ll also see a choice to Select Automatically — tap it and your phone should say “Registered on network.” That’s it. That’s all I did and I immediately saw the phone jump from EDGE to T-Mobile’s fast 3G network.

You won’t have to re-apply this fix after you reboot your cellphone. Once the settings have been altered, it will remain there until changed again.

If you faced any problems during the procedure or faced any issues, then do let us know by leaving a comment.

Skype is now widely available for most of the platform, from Symbian to Android, you’ll find an app for Skype everywhere. Now that Skype also supports Video Calling feature in their mobile apps, the trend of its usage is increasing everyday on a healthy pace.

But the biggest problem with adopting Skype as your main source of making local and International calls is its dependency on high-data-rate network, which is mostly wifi. Whenever you’re on a hotspot, you can easily make a call from Skype, but you can’t rely on it since it will require WiFi which is not available whenever required.

The alternate way could be using a 3G network, whose data rate are sufficient enough to handle a Skype call, but since the competition between cellular service provider is already heated, they won’t let Skype in the race of providing lower calling rates, and therefore most of the 3G service providers won’t allow you to make any call from Skype over your 3G Network. Though AT&T provided this facility in USA.

Now this problem has got a solution, and its available only for iPhone users now. There’s an app which you’ll need to install on your iPhone to make calls from Skype using your 3G Network. Here’s what you need to do:

Jailbreak your iPhone. Search this blog about “Jailbreak iPhone” and you’ll find some guides, like this.

Launch Cydia, and search for VoIPOver3G. Install it.

Turn off WiFi to test the 3G capability. Launch Skype and login to your account.

Now you should be able to make calls with Skype.

If you plan to use it more often, then I recommend buying an unlimited data plan from your carrier, since this application would be sucking a lot of bandwidth.

If you have any questions, or faced any problem during the procedure then please feel free to leave a comment below.

The latest toy of Apple is rumored to be released on the 26th of March of this year, according to some sources. The device was supposed to be launched earlier but it was delayed due to its heavy demand in the market.

Most likely, the iPad would be available for Apple employees from 10th of March, while it would be available for general public from 26th of March [Wi-Fi compatible]. The 3G version of this device is set to be released in the month of May.

Here are some other interesting roots from the grapevine:

The actual release date hasn’t been set, but March 26 is very likely.

The 3G versions won’t be available until April or May.

Commercials will start airing on March 15. E-book capabilities will be emphasized.

People who camp out for the iPad lauch will receive a “special gift.”

Lets see if Apple becomes successful in producing their iPad in mass quantity for their fanboys. The product has been delayed already and with the passage of time, its demand continues to grow without any pauses. So lets just wait till 10th of the March and find out what Apple has got in its mind!

Microsoft has launched a new app in their Zune store which is for facebook. Earlier in the November of 2009, Microsoft released Zune HD 4.3 firmware which added the support of 3D games and apps.

Unfortunately, this app faced certain technical issues according to CrunchGear and you may face some problems while installing it on your Zune.

Microsoft has this to say:

After launching the Facebook application for the Zune HD, we discovered a technical issue related to the API calls to Facebook which does not allow Zune users to view News Feed. The Facebook and Microsoft engineering teams are working together and hope to have a solution in the coming days

But despite of all these issues, this app is a major hit in the Zune marketplace and getting thousands of downloads daily. You can download this application from either Zune Market place or from the desktop client software on your PC. Make sure you have HD 4.3 firmware before installing the app.

Grooveshark say’s :

Right now there is not a Grooveshark application for iPhones through Apple’s iPhone App Store. Unfortunately at this time, Apple is unwilling to work with Grooveshark to approve our application.

The application can be download via Cydia on Jailbroken iPhones.
Currently there are penalty of smartphones which have already captured the market, but despite all this, Nexus One would be a strong competitor. When launched, Google Nexus One will be in direct competition with European release of the Desire, HTC’s remix of the Nexus One with Sense. Only time can tell which one among them will dominate the UK cellphone market.
