Facebook 3.0 for iPhone/iPod Touch [Complete Review]

The long awaited facebook application on iPhone, facebook 3.0 has now finally arrived with tons of extra features. Facebook submitted their app to iPhone few weeks ago, as it had to wait for the approval. Now after hitting the stores, it has become the number one app in iTune store.

Major Features in iPhone 3.0 app

The major new features which have been included in the app are these:

- See your upcoming Events and RSVP
- See your friends’ birthdays
- See Pages and post updates and photos to Pages you administer
- Write Notes and read your friends’ Notes
- Upload videos from an iPhone 3GS
- Upload photos to any album
- Complete photo management (create albums, delete albums, delete photos, delete photo tags)
- Change your Profile Picture
- Zoom into photos
- Like posts and photos
- See the same News Feed as the Facebook website
- Visit links in a built-in web browser
- See all of your friends’ friends and Pages
- See mutual friends
- Easily search for people and Pages
- Make friend requests
- Become a fan of Pages
- Quickly call or text your friends
- Create shortcuts to your favorite friends and Pages
- Friends sorted by first or last name according to your settings
- Chat friends sorted alphabeticaly

Please also note that after the upgrade, your facebook app might show version 2.5 in its details, but don’t worry, thats 3.0 infact. Its the problem with their cache, and as soon as it clears up, you’ll see 3.0 there.

Whats Missing?

Although that app apparently looks complete and using it gives you the feeling of using the best social app available on iPhone, but the question remains that whether it has got everything essential on that 3.5 screen, or do you still have to browse its website for a better user experience. The answer is quite simple, not everything in the World is perfect. iPhone 3.0 sure does with several improvements, but it has still got some features missing, like robust search, Push Notifications, Facebook app support, video playback support etc etc. Rumor has it that most of the features which haven’t been included yet will be added in the next version of the app, iPhone 3.1

Though the app is still not complete and still there are several features left which require the attention of developers, but even with all those facts, iPhone 3.0 app remains the best social application on iPhone and an upgrade is highly recommended. Its free of cost, as usual.
