Sony has hit back hard the whole Jailbreak scenario where developers like George “Geohot” Hotz, the “hacking group” fail0verflow (Hector Cantero, Sven Peter, “Bushing,” and “Segher”), and numerous John / Jane Does were up against exploiting the firmware of Sony Playstation 3.

The company has obtained restraining order against them and might also sue them in near future (A better option would be to hire them, no?). Here are some more details about the story:

To be more specific, the company cites violations of Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, various copyright infringements, and other acts of binary malfeasance. A temporary restraining order has also been sought, asking that all “circumvention tools” be taken offline and his computers and related media (i.e. anything storing said tools) be impounded. It looks like Geohot’s servers are being slammed at the moment, so we’ve gone ahead and hosted the relevant PDFs ourselves below. We’re still sifting through ourselves and will let you know what we unearth.

Panasonic has announced that the Panasonic GF2 will be released earlier for it’s home country, Japan. According to Panasonic, the Lumix GF2 will be available in Japan as early as December 3, 2010. Aside from that, not only will the Lumix be available in Black but also in red or white.

North American and Europe consumers will have to wait for late January, 2011 to get their hands on the GF2. Pricing estimates of the GF2 starts at ¥60,000 (about $720) by itself, ¥80,000 with the F2.5 14mm pancake kit lens, or ¥90,000 if paired with the 14-42mm glass. The prices are in yen since the straight conversion usually aren’t accurate. Prices still vary for different countries.

The Lumix GF2 is Panasonic’s mirrorless Micro DSLR camera and is very popular and has actually created a following. The GF2 is very attractive because of its photo quality considering the very compact size at the same time it’s lens is interchangeable.

Sources on the internet have been talking about a possible problem with Apple’s latest MacBook Air laptop. The problem is that the MacBook Air seems to have fading dark to light colors after waking from sleep.

This latest problem has been said to affect only the latest version of the MacBook Air. Apple hasn’t confirmed the problem yet and hasn’t released any press release to the public yet. According to the website BGR, they have heard from one of their sources that Apple, is at least now confirming some of the problems internally.

This is further backed up by some screens shots said to come from Apple’s internal support system, which tells employees what to do in case anyone reports a buggy MacBook Air. According to BGR, Apple is working on a software update to fix this issue. But until the report comes straight from Apple, we cannot confirm nor deny anything related to this issue.

As soon as the iPad was released to the public, musicians already saw the possibilities of using it as a control surface. However, looking at the audio production area of the Apple store, what applications are available now are still more on the guitar amp models and soft synths. The reason behind that is because there was no way to send MIDI commands from iOS natively. Some of the more creative music enthusiasts were able to find some workarounds though.

Excitingly enough, iOS 4.2 will have these MIDI capabilities. And there are a lot of websites confirming that the MIDI APIs are now available for the iOS 4.2. So what can we expect will be the applications of these MIDI capabilities? First off, the M-Audio Uno has been confirmed to be working with the iPad using it’s accelerometer as the pitch bend. We just need to wait for the final release of the iOS 4.2 before we can release the inner musicians in us.

An official Apple policy on replacing products with dead LCD pixels was leaked this week. The leaked policy reveals that Apple will replace an iPhone if it has at least one dead pixel on its display, the company will replace an iPad if it has at least three dead pixels.

The internal Apple policy was leaked by the blog Boy Genius Report. The policy states that employees must follow loose guidelines when a customer returns a device with bad pixels on its display. The terms are quite simple for the iPhone and iPad, however, it gets more complicated when it comes to the laptops, iMacs and Apples cinematic displays. The employees will need to differentiate if the problem a “bright” or “dark” faulty pixel.

Apple Store Geniuses are, however, given some leeway. The internal document states that authorized service providers must explain to the customer that they can replace the product, but that replacement may have even more dead pixels or other issues. Apple will not replace the product again if the replacement product is within the written guidelines.

The Apple engineers are once again hard at work this time on trying to improve on the already impressive graphical user interface of devices running Mac OS X or iOS. The plan is to consolidate toolbars and menus to save screen real estate.

In a patent application filed by Apple last week in Europe named “Scrollable Menus and Toolbars”, a system that would allow users to select an area and then scroll through menu items. This will allow users to select an area greater than what could be displayed on screen at one time. The document also states that toolbars and menus for basic commands such as opening a file or saving a document, “can take up valuable real estate in the graphic interface.”

For example, a user does not want a floating tool palette that takes up too much of the screen,” the document reads. “As more options get added to a tool palette, the tool palette must get larger or the size of the options must get smaller.”

The next major release of iWork, Apple’s main productivity suite has already been completed and ready for commercial release, however, Apple is going to delay the release until the Mac App Store is already ready for the public early next year.

According to other websites who are updated on this topic, the development of iWork ’11 has been fully completed this fall and was initially planned to be released together with the iLife ’11 suite which was released last month. Apple, however, delayed the release of iWork ’11 for undisclosed reasons.

This makes it logical for the company to release iWork ’11 with the much anticipated Mac App Store. Applications included with the iWork ’11 suite are Pages, Numbers and Keynote but these applications will be available individually when the Mac App Store is opened. The applications will be priced at $19.99 each.
