The founder and CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg has made it official !! As of today morning, the largest social networking site is now 500 million members strong and growing!!

As of this morning, 500 million people all around the world are actively using Facebook to stay connected with their friends and the people around them.

This is an important milestone for all of you who have helped spread Facebook around the world. Now a lot more people have the opportunity to stay connected with the people they care about.

To celebrate this special occasion, Facebook has launched a new app called Facebook Stories to let users share their personal Facebook tales and experiences on the impact the social networking site has had on their lives.

Few months back, facebook acquired a company called Divvyshot and now they are about to implement the technology which they have bought.

With the help of this feature, facebook users would be able to automatically tag their friends in photo albums which they upload. For instance, you had a get-together with your friends and you took almost 200 pictures and uploaded them in an album. Now its really a hard task to tag all your friends in the 200 pictures which you just uploaded on facebook.

To make it easy and less tedious, the new Divvyshot incorporated technology on facebook would allow you to tag just one photo of your friend. When you are done with that, facebook would automatically recognize and save the main postures of face and would use them to tag the other photos in the album. You can then approve all tags either one by one, or all collectively. Tags could also be removed later from pics if required.

The feature has not been completely rolled out by facebook right now. They might start sending beta invitation to some users. Stay tuned to us for more details when this feature goes live.

facebook application for iPhone has now been updated and now its new version is available in the Apple app store which has got support for Multitasking in iOS 4, and has also got sharp display for iPhone 4 Retina technology. The update also brings minor under the hood fixes for the application.

Previously, we have discussed how to find out if any particular user is following some other user on twitter or not. Now, there is another service which lets you know when someone unfollows you from twitter.

This service won’t bug you repeatedly if you happen to face mass unfollow, they offer this service on their website. To check your stats, you would be required to visit their website and login to your account.

facebook has officially announced that it now supports XMPP (also known as Jabber) for their chat service which gives us the option of using facebook chat on any Jabber client. Since iChat and Audim are also a Jabber client, they can be easily configured for facebook chat.

Follow this guide to enable facebook chat on iChat:

1. Navigate to iChat > Preferences > Accounts
2. Click the plus icon in the bottom left hand corner, to add a new account
3. Select Jabber as the Account Type
4. Enter <username@chat.facebook.com> in the Account Name (where username is your facebook username).
5. Enter your facebook password in the password box.
6. Click the arrow next to “Server Options” and enter the following info.

• Server: chat.facebook.com
• Port: 5222
• (Uncheck the box labeled “Use SSL”)

And follow these steps if you want to use facebook chat on Adium:

1. Go to the Adium menu and select “Preferences.”
2. Click the “+” at the bottom of the Accounts tab and select “Jabber” from the pull-down menu.
3. Fill in the following information:
4. Jabber ID: <username@chat.facebook.com> (where username is your facebook username).
5. Enter your facebook password in the password box.

Sometimes its really annoying to see that someone has removed you from their friend list on facebook, or you can say blocked or de-friend you from their facebook profile. Some people might not be interested in finding out who did that to them, but those who are interested, I have got a solution for them.

Few months ago, their was a facebook app called un-friend which used to provide this feature (Find out who deleted you on facebook) but this app is now no longer available.

But now, there’s a similar app called “Who Deleted Me” on facebook, which would take a snapshot of your friends on your profile. Every time you visit this app, it will refresh that snapshot and compare it with the previous one. So if there is someone who has deleted you after being your friend on facebook, his or her name will show up there.

This app is useful for all those users  who take their facebook profile way too seriously and are keen to know more about their friends. I hope this would help’em a lot!

Microsoft has launched a new app in their Zune store which is for facebook. Earlier in the November of 2009, Microsoft released Zune HD 4.3 firmware which added the support of 3D games and apps.

Unfortunately, this app faced certain technical issues according to CrunchGear and you may face some problems while installing it on your Zune.

Microsoft has this to say:

After launching the Facebook application for the Zune HD, we discovered a technical issue related to the API calls to Facebook which does not allow Zune users to view News Feed. The Facebook and Microsoft engineering teams are working together and hope to have a solution in the coming days

But despite of all these issues, this app is a major hit in the Zune marketplace and getting thousands of downloads daily. You can download this application from either Zune Market place or from the desktop client software on your PC. Make sure you have HD 4.3 firmware before installing the app.

Facebook Lite

The main purpose of launching Facebook Lite is to facilitate those persons who have a low speed Internet connection, so that they can atleast catch the very basics and important stuff from their friend using that Social Media.

In my opinion, that service isn’t that useful at all. While browsing the lite version, you’ll have a feeling of using facebook in late 90s, with a really scattered and unattractive UI, and if you’re one of the person who checks their facebook several times a day on a decent Internet connection, forget that you’ll ever be able to get used to of this service.
