As we all know that the iPod nano touch (6G) has been hacked and now several modifications are possible on it, one of them is to install the custom firmware on it, that is Jailbreaking the device.

The process starts with putting your iPod nano touch into the recovery mode, by simply holding the iPod’s restart button until you see a black screen followed by a double reboot.

More details of the process is given below:

From here, Troughton-Smith modified the popular jailbreak utility iRecovery to work with the non-iOS iPod nano. After this, he used the newly modified iRecovery application to install an extracted operating system file onto the iPod nano (video above). This file was built to boot the iPod nano into a white screen mode and that is exactly what it did.

This obviously does not sound groundbreaking but in reality it is. An encrypted firmware file was just installed on an iPod nano and functioned as intended by the installer. This discovery is a step in the right direction for custom made firmware files to be installed on the iPod nano and is the best evidence yet for a possible iPod nano ‘jailbreak.’

A hacker/developer close to 9to5mac has let us know that Troughton-Smith’s discovery is a big step in the right direction, but before any custom firmware can actually be installed and used through this method an actual exploit in the iPod nano OS will be need to be found. To summarize, the method to install custom firmware on the iPod nano is present, but the jailbreak community is in need of an exploit to actually make this method useful.

According to a developer James Whelton, iPod nano touch (sixth generation) has been jailbroken already and now it has made a whole bunch of stuff possible to do on an iPod touch.

Though the basic would be to remove and add apps in there but the good thing is that it won’t be limited to it. In future, we might get games, video, calendar and a lot more on our iPod nano touch.

The developer claims that he found files pertaining to games, apps, video, and calendars within the iPod nano’s file system leading to the conclusion that the nano’s operating system is definitely a hybrid between the old iPod nano operating system and iOS. The core is the old system while the layer on top resembles iOS. The developer says he will be posting more information about the nano “jailbreak” in the next few days so stay tuned.

Here’s a video from the developer demonstrating the iPod Nano Touch sixth generation Springboard icon hack.

Apple once again is tickling the suspicion of the tech world today by modifying their website to display a very simple but catchy bulletin. On the Apple website, www.apple.com, today, the homepage says “Tomorrow is just another day. That you will never forget. Check back here tomorrow for an exciting announcement from iTunes”.

The tech world is again on it’s toes waiting for what Apple could possibly release tomorrow. Most of the expected releases have already been announced in earlier Apple events which makes tomorrow’s announcement more exciting since everyone has the same level of knowledge, except of course the Apple employees. Apple has been known as an expert in these marketing strategies, take for example the company’s tagline for the iPad, “Magical and revolutionary”. Apple didn’t disappoint, the iPad actually changed the industry once again, it was quicker to hit the one million unit mark than the very popular iPhone. And Apple’s competitors are actually working hard to beat the iPad.

The announcement, scheduled for 7 AM PT time looks very important since no other than the Apple CEO, Steve Jobs himself will do the announcement. Could the announcement just be about the release of iOS 4.2, finally? Hopefully, the announcement would not disappoint, and Apple has been known to always impress with each of it’s announcements. I think the difference now is that the announcement is sourced from iTunes, which, if I remember it right will be Apple’s first time to do this in this method. Let’s wait and see what Apple brings to us tomorrow.

A lot of rumors are swirling around the internet these past couple of days and they are regarding the iOS 4.2 update for both the iPhone and iPad

One of the major enhancements that iOS 4.2 brings to the iPad is the ability to do multitasking. Steve Jobs mentioned in the Apple event last month that the new iOS 4.2 will be released sometime in November and all rumors lead to an earlier than expected, November 12 release. Although this may seem as a minor release, this release will now bring the functionalities of the iPad and iOS to somewhat equal terms.

Aside from multitasking, iOS 4.2 will bring AirPlay. AirPlay is an enhanced version of AirTunes. AirPlay, according to Steve Jobs last September, will enable audio and video streaming as well as image viewing through wi-fi to other devices on your network. This will include the iPhone, iPad, iPod as well as the Apple TV.

AirPrint on the other hand enables printing over wi-fi from all your networked devices. This is going to be very important for the iPad since Apple has marketed the iPad also as a business and productivity device. AirPrint does not require drivers to be installed on any device since it will just detect any compatible printer and add it to the selections you can have to print. This is also interesting because of the recent deal between Apple and HP wherein the new HP printers will definitely support the AirPrint.

Many were expecting Apple to announce a revamped iPod lineup at its “music event” this morning. However, before tending to the MP3 players that arguably propelled the company to greatness, Apple decided to address its current cash cow, the iPhone 4.

Next week, iOS 4.1 will be released with purported fixes for problems with the new iPhone’s Bluetooth compatibility and its proximity sensor. This OS update is also said to resolve bugs with the old iPhone 3G, which struggles mightily to run iOS 4.0 with acceptable performance.

On the features front:

iOS 4.1 brings support for TV rentals,

HDR photography,

and a new Game Center app designed specifically for multiplayer gaming.

Game Center will allow users to easily invite friends to join them in multiplayer matches,

and it will offer automatic matchmaking if you’d rather link up with strangers.

Epic was also on hand to show off Project Sword, an “action-packed RPG adventure” that uses a version of the Unreal engine and looks very nice indeed.Mobile gaming is becoming a big focus for Apple, particularly with the iPod Touch. According to Jobs, the Touch is Apple’s best-selling iPod, and its sales eclipse those of handheld gaming systems from Nintendo and Sony combined.

World’s Smallest iPod for Just $49

SAN FRANCISCO-September 1, 2010-Apple® today announced the new redesigned iPod shuffle® which features both clickable “ring” buttons and Apple’s innovative VoiceOver technology, enabling users to easily navigate their music and playlists without ever looking at their iPod shuffle. The new wearable iPod shuffle has an all-aluminum enclosure with a built-in clip and comes in five brilliant colors-silver, blue, green, orange and pink. With nearly 50 percent more battery life, the new iPod shuffle features over 15 hours of music playback on a single battery charge* and offers 2GB of storage for just $49.

“We’re making the iPod shuffle even better by combining clickable buttons and VoiceOver technology, so users can find and enjoy their music without ever looking at their iPod shuffle,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “With its all-aluminum enclosure and built-in clip the new iPod shuffle is a great workout companion, and at just $49 it’s a great entry-level iPod that almost everyone can afford.”

iPod shuffle is based on Apple’s incredibly popular shuffle feature, which randomly selects songs from a user’s music library. The clickable buttons make the new iPod shuffle even easier to use. Press the center button to play and pause, press the outer buttons to skip forward and back or adjust the volume up and down.

The new VoiceOver button on top of iPod shuffle allows users to hear the name of the currently playing song and to switch between songs, playlists or Genius Mixes. VoiceOver speaks 25 different languages and even alerts users when their battery needs charging.

The new iPod shuffle now supports Genius Mixes, the popular iTunes® feature that automatically creates mixes from songs in a user’s music library that go great together. Genius Mixes provide the perfect way to rediscover music users already have, but may not have listened to recently.

iPod® is the world’s most popular family of digital music players with over a quarter billion sold. Apple’s new holiday lineup includes a brand new iPod shuffle for just $49; the remarkable new iPod nano® with Multi-Touch™ starting at $149; the incredible new iPod touch with Retina™ display, Apple’s A4 chip, FaceTime®, HD video recording and Game Center starting at just $229; and iPod classic® in a 160GB model for $249.
