Fresh rumors from a UK retailers are suggesting that Apple might soon come up with the next generation of iPod touch, which would be dubbed as iPod touch 4G this year.

According to John Lewis, which cites, “noises we’re hearing from suppliers”, the next-gen device will be equipped for FaceTime Wi-Fi video chat, with a 5-megapixel camera, a front-facing camera, an LED flash and the capacity to capture video in HD (720p probably).

Along with all these features, the next generation iPod touch 4G might also have a better accelerometer and gyroscope for better gaming experience. Estimating from the features it would offer, we can make a rough guess that Apple might be using A4 processors which they used in iPhone 4 and iPad to power up the iPod touch 4G.

Though its still all a big rumor currently circulating the twitter world and blogosphere, we can predict from experience that there is a very high chance that Apple would NOT do this in the near future, as it would definitely kill the sales of iPhone 4, because if it happens, then who would be willing to ditch their favorite carrier and spend hundreds of bucks to add the functionality of phone only, to something that is  already selling in the market for more than hundred dollars less (Keep in mind that Apple has kept the price for iPod touch lower than the iPhone). This also defines why the iPod touch was not launched with a camera initially.

Apple Media Event is expected to be held in the months of september this year, where we would possibly get to know more about this next generation iPod touch.

Hulu has rolled out their premium service app for iPhone and iPad, which would enable the viewer to watch their favorite shows online directly on the device of their choice. The app would not provide the free service that is currently available on web. For the cost of only 10 bucks a month, you would be given the premium service by Hulu and would be able to enjoy any episode of your favorite show from the American Television and tons of other videos in HD quality.

The free edition on web does not have this feature. It only offers limited number of episodes for a serial, mostly the recent one, while the premium service has the entire record of serials, so you can view whatever you like.

The Hulu app for iPhone and iPad is now available for download from the Apple app store. The Playstation 3 users would have to wait until 2011 before they get to enjoy HD videos from Hulu on their Playstation 3.

The new iPhone 4 which has just started shipping has been now jailbroken successfully by the iPhone Dev Team. The new iOS 4 which was announced with the iPhone 4 has already been jailbroken and unlocked successfully. The programming bug that was utilized for Spirit Jailbreak tool previously has proven to be successful for iPhone 4 jailbreak too.

MuscleNerd of iPhone dev team shared a link on his twitter account which led to a screenshot showing Cydia running on his iPhone 4.

The new version of PwnageTool, version 4.0.1 is now available, promising to jailbreak iPod Touch 2G and iPhone 3GS. The recently released version 4.0 had a problem with iBooks, which has been fixed in this release. The PwnageTool will allow you jailbreak your iPhone or iPod via custom firmware, which you can then restore from iTunes, to achieve a jailbroken iDevice.

Here’s how you can jailbreak your iPod Touch 2G using PwnageTool 4.0.1:

• Download iOS 4 for iPod Touch 2G
• Download PwnageTool 4.0.1

• Launch PwnageTool and select Expert Mode from the top. Click on iPod Touch 2G on the right as shown in the picture above and click next.
• Browse to the iPod Touch 2G iOS 4 firmware that you just downloaded.
• Click build. PwnageTool will now build your custom restore firmware.
• After its done, there will be a file called iPod2,1_4.0_8A293__Custom_Restore.ipsw on your desktop. We’ll restore this firmware to the iPod Touch using iTunes.
• Open up iTunes and connect your iPod Touch 2G. While holding the Option button, click Restore. It’ll ask you to browse to the firmware. Point it to the iPod2,1_4.0_8A293__Custom_Restore.ipsw on your desktop.

• The restore will take some time, but after it’s done you’ll have a jailbroken iPod Touch 2G.

The latest iPhone and iPod touch firmware version which is dubbed as iOS 4.0 in now available for download. You can either upgrade your firmware directly from the new iTunes 9.2 or can do it manually with the help of links given below.

Not all of the features would be available on all the versions of iPhone, for instance multitasking and custom background won’t be possible iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G. But still these devices can do multi-tasking after you jailbreak and install appropriate software in it.

The new Redsn0w update – Redsn0w 0.9.5 has brought jailbreak on iOS 4 for Windows users. PC  users can use Redsn0w 0.9.5 to jailbreak iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G running on iOS 4 GM. This update also includes support for custom background wallpapers and multi-tasking.

Please keep in mind that this tool is meant for Jailbreak only and not Unlock. Once you install the new firmware on it, you won’t be able to unlock your phone.

Comex has redefined the use of your iDevice yet again! The guy behind Spirit Untethered Jailbreak tool for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has managed to port Flash on the iPhone and iPod touch. No further updates has been released so far, just a video that demonstrates Flash running on an iDevice.

Keep in mind though that the iOS 4.0 GM is meant for developers’ only, so your iDevice UDID needs to be registered with a dev account in order activate iOS 4.0. Furthermore, we would advise you to hold off on sampling the latest OS from apple, if you plan to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone or iPod touch, atleast until the iPhone Dev team releases their latest tools in time for the June 21^st general public release of the new iOS 4.0.

The newly announced iOS 4 is now available for download via bit-torrent. The iOS 4 is available for different iDevices like iPhone 3G/3GS and iPod touch 2G/3G.

This beta firmware can be installed without the hassle of registering your UDID, but for registration you would require iTunes 9.2 beta, which is currently available for developers only.

Taking Screenshots

Screenshot for iPhone  is quite useful, specially for bloggers like us who have to review certain apps. Surprisingly due to some reason, this feature was pulled off from the iPhone 4.0 beta 2 firmware. The good news is that its now back on iPhone 4.0 beta 3 and is working like a charm.

Screen Orientation Lock

Orientation lock has now also been introduced to iPhone. You can now lock your screen/device on a particular orientation and it would stick to it unless reset. So if you have got slippery hands which cause the iPhone to switch between portrait to landscape mode, this feature might be useful for you.

iPod Controls

Now you don’t have to exit any app to change the track on iPhone. iPod like controls are now available on homescreen’s tray which would allow you to change your track with ease.

Multi-tasking Tray

A new tray has been introduced which shows multiple applications that are running in background. You can easily view those applications there and remove/stop them if you want to.

File Sharing

A new previllage has been added to this firmware which allows you to move files from iTunes to iDevice for some specific apps when connected to iTunes. It would help you to share files, upload new ones etc.
