Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook said Tuesday that the iPad market is “very big” and speculated about cannibalization of PCs, while two market research firms upped their forecasts for tablet shipments in 2010.

During Apple’s third-quarter earnings conference call Tuesday, Cook mused about the continuing strong sales of the iPad and its potential to eat into PC sales. The iPad “is not following typical early adopter curve and taking a long time to cross into the mainstream…We are absolutely selling every unit (iPad) that we can make,” Cook said.

Cook continued. “Our guts tell us that this market is very big…if it turns out that iPad cannibalizes PCs, that’s fantastic for us because there is a lot of PCs to cannibalize,” he said.

An interesting rumor struck the Internet not too long ago with claims that Apple is planning to charge its tablet consumers for the long anticipated iPad iOS 4 update. Sources at Stuff.tv have gone on record to reveal that a small group of trusted iPad app developers have gotten word of the company’s secret plans, and are quietly whispering to one another about its potential effects on the software update’s adoption rates.

A small, undisclosed fee may blockade the privilege of receiving multitasking functionality on the world’s favorite superficial tablet device, as the story goes. There are no details regarding how much Apple will charge iPad owners exactly, but regardless of its financial decisions with the software update, we find this spreading rumor a bit hard to believe. For one, the recently launched iAds mobile advertising platform requires iOS 4 to appear in the App Store software. By charging iPad owners to upgrade to the latest mobile OS version, Apple could ironically limit the number of viewers in its mobile advertising audience to only those willing to pony up the cash for the new update.

Back in July 2008, the company decided to slap a $10 update fee on iPhone OS 2.0 for iPod touch users while giving iPhone and iPhone 3G owners free access to the download. As many recall, iOS 2.0 was the first major update in the company’s mobile operating system to introduce the App Store, support for MobileMe, multiple calendars, and that all too familiar calculator that switches from standard to scientific when the device is rotated in landscape mode.

We recently posted some stuff about Flash running on iPad, which seem pretty cool and gave us alot of hope that we would be able to run flash apps on our iPad in future. Then very recently, we posted about the Frash - Dubbed name for the unreleased app by Comex that would help us to run Flash on our iPad.

Now it seems that a pre-release (not beta, because its not officially launched yet) version of it is available on internet for download. As its an early, incomplete release, most of the features won’t work. Even with Frash installed on your iPad, you won’t be able to play Flash videos. You can though enjoy some of your favorite flash games just for fun.

How to Install Flash on iPad [Complete Step-by-Step Guide]

Before we proceed, please note that following this tutorial might lead your iPad to malfunction or some other related problems, for which we would not be responsible. Try it on your own risk!

• Jailbreak your iPad.
• Then you would be required to install OpenSSH. Simply search for it in Cydia, install it and reboot your iPad.
• Close your iTune application and connect the iPad to your computer.

• Download and install Cyberduck for Mac or WinSCP for Windows. Enter the following details to login to your iPad:

Cyberduck

• Server: The IP address of your iPad. Settings –> WiFi –> Network Name
• Username: root
• Password: alpine
• Protocol: SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)

WinSCP

• Hostname: The IP address of your iPad. Setting –> WiFi –> Network Name
• User name: root
• Password: alpine
• Protocol: SCP

• Search Google for Frash.deb file and download it on your computer. Links can’t be posted here for some legal reasons
• Go to /var/root/Media and create a new folder named Cydia. Inside it, create another folder and call it AutoInstall.
• Copy the Frash file which you just downloaded into this directory.
• Restart your iPad.

Thats it. You are good to go. Now whenever you browse a flash based website on your iPad, you should see a “F” sign there (“F” is for Flash, not anything else ). Simply tap the the alphabet and you should be able to view the content.

Out of all the news we have posted so far about Flash being ported to iPad, we have now come across something bigger than what has happened earlier. The guy (Comex) who managed to port Flash on iPad earlier has strike again, and this time he has managed to run real Flash content on a jailbroken iPad.

The port or hack is dubbed as “Frash”, and it relies on the flash port for Android devices that runs on iPad in compatibility mode, but still works quite smoothly and good enough to enjoy some good flash experience on your iPad.

Frash is a port of the Adobe Flash runtime for Android to the iPhone, using a compatibility layer, by comex ( http://twitter.com/comex ). Frash can currently run most Flash programs natively in the MobileSafari browser. Frash currently only runs on the iPad, but support for other devices (3GS+ only due to technical restrictions) is planned, as well as support for iOS 4.

A release is planned for when Frash is stable. Developers are welcome to join the effort at http://github.com/comex/frash – fork it and send a pull request with your patches.

No word so far on its release date. Guess Comex won’t launch Frash unless its more stabilized and is completely bug free. We will post the download link and a complete guide on how to use it shortly after its public release.

Hulu has rolled out their premium service app for iPhone and iPad, which would enable the viewer to watch their favorite shows online directly on the device of their choice. The app would not provide the free service that is currently available on web. For the cost of only 10 bucks a month, you would be given the premium service by Hulu and would be able to enjoy any episode of your favorite show from the American Television and tons of other videos in HD quality.

The free edition on web does not have this feature. It only offers limited number of episodes for a serial, mostly the recent one, while the premium service has the entire record of serials, so you can view whatever you like.

The Hulu app for iPhone and iPad is now available for download from the Apple app store. The Playstation 3 users would have to wait until 2011 before they get to enjoy HD videos from Hulu on their Playstation 3.

onLive is a cloud based computing service provider that is currently aiming to make hardware-intensive games available for masses, especially for those who don’t have access to fancy hardware.

The idea is pretty simple. You have a low-end performing device which is connected to a high-speed data connection. Comex has redefined the use of your iDevice yet again! The guy behind Spirit Untethered Jailbreak tool for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has managed to port Flash on the iPhone and iPod touch. No further updates has been released so far, just a video that demonstrates Flash running on an iDevice.

Previously, we discussed about How to Play Flash Videos on iPhone and iPad. Now with the release of this hack, you would be able to enjoy Flash content outside of the Safari browser, as it was supported by Apple natively.

So Steve Jobs has completely screwed Adobe over their “Slow” and “non-open” Flash technology and have dropped it from all the Apple products. In reply, Adobe made a smart move by banning Apple to ever use Flash on their gadgets, but what about those thousands of people out there who love an iPad and want to see flash on it? Well, we have got a solution for them!

SmokeScren is the answer for the flash problem of iPhones and iPads, as it would make your iDevice compatible for Flash videos, so you can enjoy Hulu on iPad, or play farmville directly from facebook. You won’t even need to jailbreak your device for that.

According to the official statement by SmokeScreen founders:

“It runs entirely in the browser, reads in SWF binaries, unzips them (in native JS), extracts images and embedded audio and turns them in to base64 encoded data:uris, then stitches the vector graphics back together as animated SVG.”

Initial results of SmokeScreen have not been quite satisfactory and there were many glitches in the video during testing. The device was found quite less-responsive while playing flash videos. As this solution is based on JavaScript, the slow results were expected, but chances are that it will be improved with the arrival of next version.

So here goes, this is the first post we have today about the ongoing Apple WWDC, which began with a keynote address from Apple CEO, Steve Jobs.

The very first new announcements he made today was an update to the iBook reader that ships with iPad, which according to Apple has already gained a 22 % market share among all ebooks sales. According to Apple, 5 million ebooks have been downloaded for the iPad since launch.

Not surprisingly, some new features are being added to this fast growing segment in the Apple portfolio, some of them being the ability to view PDF files from within the app, make notes and bookmarking the ebooks have also been included.
