Android on iPhone 3G Spotted [Video]
Earlier, we have posted some crazy news about devices running on different OS, like iPad running on Windows XP, iPhone 2G running on Android etc. But the latest thing from the same category is that now Android OS can be run on an iPhone 3G
Though it seems kind of obvious that its possible, because they successfully did it with iPhone 2G, but in fact its not that easy. The architecture of every iPhone model in terms of hardware is different than another which makes it difficult to port same code on different models of iPhone. The good news is that it can be done for any model with a little hard work and there’s a high chance that we will be seeing Android on iPhone 3GS in near future.
I haven’t got my hands on this yet but from several sources around the web, I have heard that Android experience on iPhone 3G is pretty smooth – smooth enough to let you feel that you are using an original Android device.
Now you can use the Android OS to browse the web and run any application that does not require audio support, as well as send and receive SMS text messages over the cell phone radio.
We’ve also made several other improvements to the original port in this version. Along with many under-the-hood improvements and bug fixes, the Wi-Fi driver has been fleshed out with all the Android-specific extensions, making it more stable and reliable. We’ve also added an Android icon to the boot menu to make it more easily accessible..
Not all the Android features are available in this ported version, several features that lie under the hood are still in development. Some other features, like better power management settings and backlight controls are expected to be added in the next release.
A step-by-step guide on how to install Android on iPhone 3G is not out yet, we will post it on this blog as soon as it is released. You can see the complete tutorial about how to install Android on iPhone 2G over here.
