128GB iPod Touch and 64GB iPhone by 2010

According to Macrumors, the reason that the largest memory supported by an iPod touch was 64GB is due to the fact that their manufacturer, Toshiba, was capable of producing only32GB of flash memory on a single NAND chip (NAND chip are generally used for storing digital data in flash memory devices), but now Toshiba has announced that they have doubled their capacity of storing data on a single chip, means that now a single NAND chip fabricated by Toshiba is capable of storing 64GB.

The architecture of current iPhone and iPod Touch are designed in a way that currently they can support one and two NAND chips respectively. Since more memory on the same chip is now possible, rumor has it that soon Apple would be launching its new line of iPod touch and iPhone with more memory than before.

Currently, Toshiba is the provider of memory in iPhone and iPod touch, so its expected that their new innovation would dramatically brought a change in the Apple’s product line for a low price.
